This was the first project of second year, definitely a learning curve for me as I have learnt the value of staying motivated and not getting disheartened, just get back to the workshop, do some drawings and keep experimenting, however this enlightenment only came at the end of the project. Even so, I did work hard and I'm happy with my final outcomes and now excited to see what I can do in the next project.
First metal sample, inspired by the windows of Florence Cathedral
Piercing and finishing practice, using forms inspired Florence Cathedral, Milan Galleria & Rome Colosseum
Spoon making using the fly press. I made my own perspex tool to bend the metal into a spoon shape and using braze paste solder the pierced handle to the back
Combining copper and brass by soldering, I really liked this piece and this (along with the window piece) was the basis for my development work in my sketchbook
Stitching different metals together as aluminium cant be soldered
Sand casting - a wonderful new technique that I have learnt through specialist workshops and something that I really want to explore in more depth
Etching - again another new technique learnt in specialist workshops, and even though these pieces aren't great I am excited to explore this technique more as it could be a good way to express my drawn line through metal
I find that working in paper models helps me to be able to visualise an idea and play around with compositions

I found that I prefered it with the top copper piece at angle and not covering as much of the piece so that both can be appreciated
The beginnings of my final pieces, I chose to make three interchangeable pendants; inspired by the interchangeable pendants by Hermann Junger and Paul Derrez; that would be able to be attached to a twisted wire neck piece via jump rings, here are the finished articles, a flat base piece made from brass with copper detail soldered on and then a domed window piece riveted to each one...
